Re: UT @ UK
Losing Ainge isnt really a bad thing. He is not the worst QB by far, but he certainly isnt the best. Every snap I find myself wondering what is going to happen, not "Im confident he will make this play". Hopefully we will find a good prospect in the near future....

O.K. after UT blocked the FG Berry was face masked, it was said that the period couldn't end on an infraction, so the flag was disregarded, but whenever Foster got the unsportsman like it was tacked on in the next OT period?? WTF! </div></div>
one happened during the play, one happened after the play </div></div>
But that still gives one team an unfair advantage over another, which is what I thought the rules were supposed to eliminate. By tackling the UT player by his face mask, UK avoided a losing play. Advantage UK. On the unsportsmanlike penalty, UT started 15 yards further down the field and out of field goal range, and again, advantage UK. They really need to address that if the officials ruled correctly on the field. </div></div>
To the best of my knowledge the officials got both right, unless things are slightly different in the NCAA than NFHS, but I don't think they are in this situation. The possible error on the officials during this would be whether they laid down on the whistle hard after UT recovered the blcoked FG. UT could not have scored once they had possession. The play was dead from there. What happened afterword didn't matter (i.e. facemask, holding, whatever) That is unless there had been something of unsportsmanlike variety, then that is carried over. A dead ball foul at the end of an OT is carried over just like a dead ball foul at the end of a half.

Re: UT @ UK
Thanks for the clarification. So what you're saying is that once the FG was blocked, there should have been a whistle, in which case the facemask would have been a dead-ball foul also.

Re: UT @ UK
Well, by watching it on TV, you don't know if there ever was a whistle or whether they did lay down on it. If they did and both teams kept going, its not the officials fault. Yes the "foul" is dead ball, but because of how it happened, it wasn't something that would be enforced I guess you would say.

Re: UT @ UK
There was no whistle. It was a live play. So, what should happen now?

Re: UT @ UK
The guys on the radio said that an overtime can end on a penalty if it had to with what happened after the turnover and wasn't on the defense. Since they would get the ball at the 25 if they ended KY's possession ,this was the logic. I don't really claim to have an understanding, but that was what they came up with and it was from the Vol net, perhaps it was just the call from the field that they broadcast. The ball was live as long as Tenn was running with it. But to give it to them from that spot is where the problem with the rules arises. Sorta like half the distance for the defense and 5 yards for the offense on penalties inside the 10.

Re: UT @ UK
I understand that they can't penalize from the spot or anything, what I don't understand is why the penalty isn't enforced on the next possession, whether putting UT 15 yards closer to the endzone or putting UK 15 yards further back. I just don't understand how UT got a p/f call on the last play of overtime and UK got the same call, but one is enforced and the other isn't (and yes, I know one was dead ball and one wasn't). I'm not arguing or complaining, I just don't like the rule if that's how it is. If it is that way, it needs to be changed.

Re: UT @ UK
Agreed, I don't think the Vol's net liked it too much either.

Re: UT @ UK
It's a bad rule. No matter if the tables were reversed it's unfair and needs to be changed.

In college you can return a blocked fieldgoal for a touchdown as long as it doesn't go past the line of scrimmage. If you watch VT when they go for a block they have a recovery guy standing on the line on each side to make sure the ball doesn't go past the line.
